GB Hockey in conjunction with the English Institute of Sport have been using GPS Technology to monitor their players for the past 6 years- with rolling substitutions allowed coaches were using live data on players distance, sprints and loading scores to determine substitutions. In 2015 GB Hockey wanted to move to the next level in their monitoring and moved from another GPS provider to Catapult Technology investing in 32 units to allow them to monitor both the Mens and Womens teams. They are using the IMA (Inertial Movement Analysis) to look at specific movement patterns of players as well as the speed of players when they are running at specific body angles which the onboard gyroscopes can measure.
