Overview
Pangbourne College, an independent co-educational boarding and day school in Berkshire, sought to elevate its sports performance facilities to better support its student-athletes and broader physical education strategy.
Pangbourne College selected Perform Better due to our expertise in the independent school sector and our ability to bridge the gap between clinical/coaching needs and bursarial procurement goals.
The Project
Rather than treating the gym update as a one-off equipment drop, Perform Better collaborated closely with the Director of Sport and Bursar to design a strategic, phased master plan. This approach ensured the project aligned both with long-term athletic goals and institutional financial planning.
Phase 1: High-Impact Foundation & Subfloor:
Installing heavy-duty, performance-grade acoustic gym flooring to drastically improve the acoustics, safety, and visual aesthetic of the room.
Future Phases: Modular Equipment & Strength Zones:
Building upward on the new surface with custom strength rigs, free weights, and sport-specific training technology to complete the athletic suite.
By prioritising high-impact flooring in Phase 1, the project immediately altered the look, feel, and functionality of the space, creating a clean slate and structural baseline for future equipment installations.
The Outcome
By engaging with both the sports directorate and the finance office from day one, Perform Better delivered a phased strategy that gives the school complete control over its capital investment while guaranteeing an elite training environment for pupils.
