CULFORD SCHOOL

Following almost 3 years of planning and designs, Culford School made the decision to convert a double squash court area they were using as an S&C suite and commercial gym. The majority of the dividing wall, the full length court glass wall and access doors were removed to create a much more open space and allow better flow of users throughout the facility.

This was much needed as lots of the equipment was dated but particularly due to the increase in pupil uptake of the strength and conditioning programme. We wanted to create an inspiring open space that would improve the programme delivery, pupil experience and allow for whole teams to train. We are extremely pleased with the final outcome of the project and pupils have been really enthuastic about the space they now have to train. It was really nice to have a point of reference to discuss ideas with and working alongside Sam at Perform Better made such a large project redesign manageable and seamless.

Solution

After the first site visits to survey the space and then a series of remote and on-site consultations with multiple departments from the school. Perform Better took the project brief and translated this into 3D design for the Culford team to review and collaborate on any changes. From here, custom equipment was also designed to both fit the space and deliver on the key requirements of the Athletic Development team at the school.

The key for the team creating more space, having a large multi-functional movement area and incorporating a variety of methods for loading. It was also important to have all flooring flush at one level, removing trip hazards as well as keeping as much usable floor space as possible.

The equipment list includes, a custom two bay infinity rig, with suspension wings and monkey bars, plate loaded reverse hyper, GHD, incline leg press, two Olympic lifting platforms, custom medicine ball wall and Exxentric® flywheel technology. The flooring is a combination of DuraTrain 32mm impact tile and premium turf area with bespoke line markings.

Having equipment branded in the school colours was important to the team as well as the custom branded pieces like the plyometric boxes and dumbbell sets. Perform Better were able to provide bespoke branding on the joining plates of the racks, machine equipment, plyometric box covers and bench upholstery.
