Wales rugby Captain, Sam Warburton, has revealed his full recovery routine to the Aspetar Sports Medicine Journal, something that he’ll no doubt be using during the RBS Six Nations.
After every gruelling match, Sam explained that he and his team mates dive into an ice cold bath, and once dry, continue their post-game routine by wearing a pair of recovery skins. In terms of food, Sam swears by a high protein and fruit smoothie, as well as 2 paracetamol, one zinc tablet, a dose of magnesium, and a sleeping tablet, which is used to counteract the pre-match caffeine influx.
A day after the game, Sam also uses full-body cryotherapy to aid recovery. Once rested, he also enjoys gentle exercise, such as walking his dog.
As well all know, recovery is an important aspect of training and it’s essential to ensuring athletes continue to grow in strength and skill. We find it fascinating to read how other players recover, and we will be updating our News page with more similarly interesting insight.
