Overview
RC Strasbourg is a French national football team, competing in League 1 which is owned by BlueCo - owners of Chelsea FC. Perform Better were asked to provide a proposal for an extension of their current training facility, to improve the performance environment.
We discussed the current use of space, the size of the proposed areas, the ideas from the medical, conditioning and PB team and, created a floorplan that streamlined the facility, reflecting and aligning the ideas from those who collaborated. Following the design and concept, a refurbishment was agreed and work was underway.
The Project
The existing area was cluttered, disorganised, and compromised by space available for the athletes and practitioners. Items of equipment were outdated and didn’t reflect the current demands of an elite level footballer. The space increased from 120sqm to 430sqm, which incorporated a transparent medical area, activation area, conditioning area, testing area and integrated functional track. All areas were designed from an athlete’s perspective, ensuring that an efficient flow from the arrival of the athlete into the environment, to the completion of their session.
New items of equipment were customised to fit specific areas. This was also reflected in the branding, using the club colours and logos as identification.
All logistics and project management were handled internally by PB, who liaised with RC Strasbourg throughout the process. Effective communication enabled a seamless project, ultimately providing the club with a unique, bespoke and upgraded training facility.
The installation consumed five working days from start to finish, ensuring that the project was completed in time for the returning players, ready for pre-season training.
